Lessons in groups for Adults
It is never too late to learn how to swim. The record for the oldest swimmer is held by Mieko Nagaokay at 100 years old and amazingly she only learnt to swim age 80!

Regardless of your swimming level 3S Swim School can provide you with a programme and lessons that will be suitable for your range of skills. Our experienced teachers work with the variety of swimmers from absolute beginners with the fear of water to club swimmers and triathlon competitors.
Locations
We offer group adult swimming lessons in variety of larger London swimming pools, located in different parts of the city (London Bridge, Barbican, Romford, Ilford, Gravesend, Emerson Park, Harrow etc.) You can select the nearest swimming pool to you to minimise travelling time.
For those with the fear or water we highly recommend starting with private lessons. Out teachers will follow a specially designed programme tailored to your individual need. They will ensure that you are supported through every stage of it and move at your own pace.

Beginners 1.
This stage (max 5 per group) aims to give confidence in the water to swimmers with no previous swimming experience, nervous swimmers with a fear of water, or who have had a bad experience in the past. Swimmers will learn:
- To be at ease walking around within the pool.
- To be at ease with water on the face.
- Regain an upright position from the front and/or back with support.
- Inhale and, with the face in a water, exhale in full. Repeat rhythmically a minimum of 5 times through the mouth and 5 times through the nose (with a break between each 5).
- Gain knowledge of floatation and learn to travel 10m on your front and back with the help of flotation equipment
- Pick up an object from 1.4m depth.
Beginners 2.
This stage (max 5 per group) aims to give swimmers skills necessary to start swimming independently over short distances. These classes are for people who have completed Beginners Stage 1, or who have a small amount of previous swimming experience and feel confident in the water. Swimmers will learn:
- To, kick 10meter on the front and back without the use of floatation equipment.
- Submerge to pick up an object from the pool floor deeper than 1.4m or shoulder-depth
- Swim 25 meters, in a stroke of your choice.
- Tread water for 30sec. Swimmer’s choice of the leg action.
- Be comfortable with the face in the water without goggles
Intermediate 1:
This stage (max 5 per group) aims to give swimmers the necessary skills to swim up to 200m independently. These classes are for people who have completed the Beginners 2 stage, or for those who can swim 25-100 m and would like to improve technique and build stamina in order to take part in the other pool activities.
Outcomes:
- Perform a feet first and face first surface dive.
- Tread water for 60 sec.
- Swim 50m front crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke.
- Understand lane etiquette for lane swimming in a group.
- Complete 200m swim (8 length in a 25m pool) using different strokes if needed.
Intermediate 2:
This stage (max 6 per group) aims to give swimmers the necessary skills to swim up to 400m independently. This classes are for people who have completed the Intermediate 1 stage, or for those who can swim 200-300 m and would like to improve technique and build stamina in order to take part in the other pool activities such as Fin swimming and/or Fitness Swimming classes, or have a go at their first swimming challenge event such as swimming pool based triathlon.
- Swim 100m front crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke.
- Swim butterfly 25m
- Perform a siting dive.
- Perform a forward somersault.
- Swim a distance of 200m using two different strokes.
- From a lifeguard jump, tread water for two minutes.
- Complete 400m swim (16 length in a 25m pool) using different strokes if needed.
FitSwim (Fitness Swim):
FitSwim (Fitness Swim)
This classes (max 8 per lane in 25m pool) are for people who have completed the Intermediate Stage or for those who would like to develop more advanced swimming skills or to compete in masters competitions or Triathlon.
Outcomes:
- Understand lane etiquette/ use of backstroke flags and pace clock.
- Perform advanced technique turns (all strokes)
- Swim a continuos 100m individual medley (IM) using legal turns.
- Perform legal starts (all strokes)
- Perform legal finish (all strokes)
- Swim continuously using any stroke for 30min.
- Ability to swim 1.5km – 3km sets in one hour.
